Jack,
You will find the answer to your question on Daphne's politics in the biography Daphne du Maurier by Margeret Forster (Arrow) 1994. Why not buy it.
The book's index lists 5 pages of which p.302 gives a good summary, 'She was not a Tory but inclined towards a vague humanitarian, if elitist, liberalism and was always attracted to the individual politician than to his politics.' Other pages mention her fondness for Harold Wilson & Edward Heath!

How about Rule Brittania, her last novel, so often left out of our thoughts about du Maurier?
