Friday 8th May at The du Maurier Fowey Literary Festival 2026

Take a Chance on Us, the ultimate ABBA tribute experience
What a beautiful way to start a Friday morning. Today's first Festival event is Brigit Strawbridge Howard – Dancing with Bees. Join naturalist and author Brigit Strawbridge Howard for a captivating conversation inspired by her much-loved book Dancing with Bees. This event is perfect for nature lovers, gardeners, environmentalists and anyone ready to fall under the spell of bees. Brigit will be in conversation with her son, celebrity chef James Strawbridge.
For the early afternoon event, join Lally Macbeth for a captivating exploration of Britain's Folk Traditions. She will discuss her book, The Lost Folk, as she examines what these rituals mean for communities today. Her call is clear: folk culture belongs to all of us, and we can all become collectors, keepers and creators of our own traditions.
Later in the afternoon, International bestselling author Louise Candlish talks about her latest highly acclaimed novel, A Neighbour’s Guide to Murder, and gives insight into her immense talent for turning everyday lives into gripping crime characters.
This evening, it is time for one of the events everyone has been waiting for. It is the return to the Festival of Take a Chance on Us, the ultimate ABBA tribute experience. You can be sure that they will bring you the hits, the moves, and the unforgettable energy of one of the greatest pop bands of all time. From Dancing Queen to Mamma Mia! Sing along to all your favourite ABBA classics, and feel free to come dressed in your best ABBA-inspired costumes. This is going to be a great night.
