Saturday 2nd May at The du Maurier Fowey Literary Festival 2026

Daphne du Maurier's grandsos, Rupert Tower and Paul de Zulueta
Today is the first full day of the Festival, and it begins with a fantastic event at 11am in Fowey Town Hall. Menace and Glamour: The Cultural Influence of the Du Mauriers is presented by two of Daphne du Maurier's grandsons, Rupert Tower and Paul de Zulueta. This is a golden opportunity to hear an expansive talk about their forbears. They will share anecdotes, extracts from letters, writings and film clips that express the rich Du Maurier Family legacy and their contributions to society and modern culture. This event is not to be missed!
Later in the day, there is lots more on offer, including two foraging events with Rachel Lambert.
In the early afternoon, film critic Mark Kermode and radio producer Jenny Nelson are in conversation with Petroc Trelawney about their new book, Surround Sound: The Stories of Movie Music.
At 4pm, join Dr Sian Williams in discussion with Iain Dale about her career as a psychologist, journalist and BBC broadcaster and her new book The Power of Anxiety: How to Ride the Worry Wave.
The day ends with ORWELL – The Road to 1984. This evening event takes place in Fowey Town Hall. Expect a compelling evening of storytelling that illuminates the journey towards one of the most influential novels of the 20th century. Performed by Mark Stratford and adapted and directed by Guy Smith.
