The Du Maurier Fowey Literary Festival Competition for Young Writers and Artists 2025

In the Spring, we told you about the du Maurier Fowey Literary Festival Competition for Young Writers and Artists 2025.  We can now bring you up to date on how this year's event went.

This year, children and young people between the ages of 4 and 16 living in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly were invited to produce a piece of work on the subject – Making Waves.  The entries could be a picture, a poem, a story or a factual piece.  The Festival received a magnificent collection of entries.

A group of local artists, poets, writers and teachers judged each entry with care and consideration.  There was a tremendous range of stories, poems, factual writing and artwork, demonstrating the wonderful and vivid imaginations of our children and young people.

On Saturday, 25th April, the Festival held an event at Fowey Hall Hotel to celebrate the work and present awards to the winners.  At this celebratory event, the awards for Young Writer of the Year 2025 and Young Artist of the Year 2025 were also presented.

The Festival thanks all those who worked to make this event such a success, including the organisers, helpers, and judges who gave their time.  Thanks also go to Waterstones, The Arts Society Mid Cornwall, Fowey River Gallery, and Atishoo Gallery for providing the prizes, display space, and framing the artwork, and to Fowey Hall Hotel for hosting the event.
