The du Maurier Fowey Literary Festival - Friday 16th May
Emily Charlotte
The du Maurier Fowey Literary Festival is drawing to a close with just two days to go. Today, the morning begins with Emily Charlotte’s Writing Workshop, in Fowey Parish Hall at 10am. Discover what makes Cornwall so inspiring in this writing workshop designed to help writers capture a strong sense of place.
Tom Michell
At 11am in Fowey Town Hall, Tom Michell talks about his book, The Penguin Lessons. This is a true story, which has just been made into a major new film starring Steve Coogan and Jonathan Pryce.
Nigel Marns
Nigel Marns presents the next event at 12.30pm in Fowey Parish Church. The Rev Canon Nigel Marns delves into the themes of his acclaimed book, A Cornish Celtic Way. This is a free event, but donations to Fowey Festival would be much appreciated.
Liz Gifford
In the first event of the afternoon, in Fowey Town Hall at 2pm, author Liz Gifford talks about her new book, The Mischief Makers. Daphne du Maurier grew up with J.M. Barrie, a familiar presence in the nursery, spinning tales of Peter Pan, just for her and her sisters. Years later, Daphne realises that Barrie was not the benign influence she imagined. The subject matter of this novel has all the makings of a fascinating event.
Tim Willasey-Wilsey
At 4pm, in Fowey Town Hall, Tim Willasey-Wilsey presents his talk about his book, The Spy and the Devil. This is a riveting tale of espionage, intrigue, and the untold story of the MI6 agent who penetrated Hitler’s inner circle. Bill de Ropp’s story has never been published in full before. This promises to be an exciting event.
Vybarr Cregan-Reid
Vybarr Cregan-Reid presents the last afternoon event at 6pm in Fowey Town Hall, with his talk about the profound impact books have on shaping a life, and makes a rallying call for books. His talk is supported by his book, We Are What We Read.
Les Miserables
The entertainment this evening is a film night in Fowey Town Hall, starting at 7.45pm. The film is the 35th anniversary sell-out concert version of Les Misérables, starring Michael Ball, Alfie Boe, Carrie Hope Fletcher, Matt Lucas and John Owen Jones. Enjoy the film with a drink and some popcorn!
