Tatiana de Rosnay's new novel, Flowers of Darkness, is published in the English language this week

Franco-British author Tatiana de Rosnay will be known to most of you as Daphne du Maurier's current biographer, with her excellent book Manderley Forever: The Life of Daphne du Maurier, published in France in 2015 and the US and UK in 2017.  She is, in fact, better known as a novelist and is one of the top ten fiction writers in Europe, her most famous novel and New York Times bestseller being Sarah's Key

In 2020 her newest novel, Les fleurs de l'ombre, was published in France.  This week, on the very day that we celebrated the 90th anniversary of Daphne du Maurier's first novel, The Loving Spirt, the English language edition of Tatiana's new book Flowers of Darkness was published and is now available in the US and the UK.

Many of Tatiana's novels have been translated into English, and usually, she had the work translated for her.  However, on this occasion, Tatiana wrote the book in both languages simultaneously, which must have been a tremendous challenge.

If you have read some of Tatiana's work, and I hope you have, you will know that houses are a considerable influence in her work.  This is the case in Flowers of Darkness but in a startlingly different way.  Tatiana has written an article for crimereads.com, in which she talks about her writing, the influence of other authors, which of course includes Daphne du Maurier, and her new novel.  Click here for her article: https://crimereads.com/whats-left-to-write-about-strange-and-frightening-houses-plenty-actually/

Tatiana's American publisher, St Martin Press, New York, has published the English language edition of Flowers of Darkness, so copies will be widely available in the US.  It will be this US edition that you will be buying in the UK, so availability may be a little more difficult.  Contact your local independent book shop or high street bookstore, most of whom are selling their books online during the pandemic.  If you struggle to find a copy, I suggest that UK purchasers try Blackwells, who have an excellent online service and have copies in stock.

When you have enjoyed Flowers of Darkness, try some of Tatiana's other novels if you haven't already done so.  You will be glad you did!
