The Rook with a Book to have a new home in Fowey
In March 2018, the Rook with a Book became a significant piece of public art in Fowey. Sculpted by father and son team Gary and Thomas Thrussell and also known as Isla, named after a new member of the Thrussell family born at the time the Rook was completed and also called Isla, the Rook with a book was installed at Berrills Yard and unveiled on March 19th 2018 by Daphne du Maurier's son Kits Browning.
The sculpture of a bird holding a book was inspired by Daphne du Maurier's 1952 short story The Birds and is the first public monument to her work. The unveiling of the sculpture also launched the Fowey Festival 2018 programme.
Initially, the Rook was loaned to the Town by Thrussells for a period of two years. However, we are very happy to be able to announce that, thanks to the generosity of Gary and Thomas Thrussell, the Rook is to be moved to a new home on Town Quay in Fowey, where even more visitors will see her.
We expect the move to take place at the same time as the launch of the 2020 Fowey Festival programme in early March and we will bring you more news of this as soon as we have it.
