The children's competition will be launched on 13th January 2020, and the Fowey Festival will be writing to schools to invite pupils to create their own original story, poem or picture, with winners becoming the Fowey Festival Young Writer or Young Artist of the year 2020.  This year’s theme is ‘The Spirit of Cornwall‘.

Both competitions have Daphne du Maurier at the heart of their themes.

This is what the Fowey Festival team have to say about this year’s children's competition:

In Vanishing Cornwall Daphne du Maurier wrote that ‘the beauty and mystery beckon still’, ending with the words, ’the challenge is still to the young.’

Our challenge to you for 2020 is to send us a picture, poem, or short story that captures the spirit of Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly. It must be your own work, whether it’s enchanted Cornwall, the beauty of wild Cornwall, Cornwall responding to world-wide change or the mysteries of the Isles of Scilly. Whatever you want to say, we’d love to hear from you!

We do hope your school will take part again or, indeed, for the first time. This is a special competition for all children from Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly aged 4 to 16 years.  The final entry date is 6th March 2020.
