Dora Footman (1878 – 1974)
An illustration of Dora and her brother Eric drawn by their uncle, George du Maurier, for Punch Magazine Daphne du Maurier’s Cousin Dora, actually Daphne’s father Gerald’s cousin, arrived
in Tywardreath, just two miles from Menabilly, in December 1966. She was 88 and had decided to come and live
near Daphne without even discussing it first.
She lived for a further seven years, and was quite a challenge for
Daphne! Here, Chris Main tells us the story
of Dora Footman, a woman born into the world of the du Mauriers. She lived a fascinating, but sometimes
