Writers in Whites by Ollie Randall – A Book Recommendation from Sophie Reid

Writers in Whites by Ollie Randall
As many of you already know, three of us run the Daphne du Maurier website: Sophie, David, and myself. In September 2025, Sophie wrote an article called An Unlikely Connection: Daphne du Maurier and A.G. Macdonell. A.G. Macdonell was Sophie’s great, great, uncle Archie, a writer of considerable note. It was exciting to find that one of our team has such an interesting link to Daphne du Maurier, through her Uncle Archie.
We posted Sophie's article in our Interesting Facts pages, and you can look at it again here:https://www.dumaurier.org/menu_page.php?id=265.
The writer Ollie Randall, who specialises in the intersection of literature, history and cricket, read Sophie’s article and contacted the website, because the book he was working on included references to A.G. Macdonell. Ollie’s book, called Writers in Whites, has now been published, and includes fascinating information about Gerald du Maurier, J.M.Barrie and the Llewelyn Davies family, as well as A.G. Macdonell. The book was published on 15th May.
Sophie was one of the first people to buy a copy, and she has reviewed it for us. You can read her review in our Book Recommendation section or by clicking here https://www.dumaurier.org/menu_page.php?id=279.
