Night Bird Press, Daphne du Maurier and the House of Dreams

Louisa Amelia Albani is an artist and the founder and owner of Night Bird Press. She produces beautiful pamphlets and amazing artwork inspired by literary figures from William Blake to Virginia Woolf. Her inspiration for the press came from the English tradition of independent presses by writers and artists, such as Virginia and Leonard Woolf's Hogarth Press and William and Catherine Blake's publishing work.
Night Bird Press has produced pamphlets about numerous writers, including the Brontė sisters, members of the Bloomsbury Group and Mary Shelley. The pamphlets can be bought direct from Night Bird Press and from a selection of stockists in London and across the UK, such as Hatchards Piccadilly, the Brontė Parsonage Museum and the Edge of the World Bookshop, Penzance, Cornwall. You can find a list of stockists and lots more information on the Night Bird Press website: https://www.nightbirdpress.com.

House of Dreams: Daphne du Maurier's Menabilly pamphlet
In recent months, Louisa has been working on a pamphlet about Daphne du Maurier, which will be available from 7th February 2026. This pamphlet is titled House of Dreams: Daphne du Maurier's Menabilly. Here at the Daphne du Maurier website, we are all looking forward to seeing this pamphlet with great excitement.
Louisa's timing is perfect because it was 100 years ago, in 1926, that Daphne du Maurier first set out to find Menabilly. At her first attempt, she and her sister Angela entered the grounds of Menabilly through the lodge gates at Four Turnings, past the lodge and into the woods. On that occasion, they failed to find the house, but on Daphne's next attempt, the house did reveal itself to her.
Maggie Humm, Vice-Chair of the Virginia Woolf Society of Great Britain and author of several books, has contributed to Louisa's pamphlets in the past and does so again in House of Dreams: Daphne du Maurier's Menabilly.
Join Louisa Albani and Maggie Humm as they follow in Daphne du Maurier's footsteps in this beautiful pamphlet, inspired by Daphne's own vivid recollections in her essay The House of Secrets (The Rebecca Notebook and Other Memories, page 133, Virago 2005) and in her unforgettable fiction.

As well as the pamphlet, Louisa has created a beautiful limited edition greeting card titled Rododendrons at Menabilly. Rhododendrons are powerful symbols in Daphne du Maurier's novel Rebecca, evoking the wild, exotic and lingering presence of Maxim de Winter's first wife. Huge rhododendrons obscured the view of Menabilly when Daphne eventually discovered the house in 1927.
