The du Maurier Fowey Literary Festival Competition for Young Writers and Artists 2026 – Launches on Monday, 19th January

The du Maurier Fowey Literary Festival is delighted to announce that on Monday, 19 January 2026, it will, once again, be launching the Competition for Young Writers and Artists.  The aim of this competition is to encourage young people to engage in visual arts and creative writing, to celebrate their creativity and originality.

The chosen theme for 2026 is ‘After Midnight’ and young people are invited to submit a story, poem or piece of art inspired by this theme.

The competition is open to all children living in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly aged 4 to 16 on 31 August 2026.  Thanks to generous sponsorship, entry is free, and prizes are awarded in each category and age group.

Additionally, a Young Writer and a Young Artist of the Year will be selected.

Key dates are:
•    Competition opens on 19 January 2026
•    Closing date 1 April 2026
•    Prize winners announced 20 April 2026
•    Awards event 9 May 2026 tbc
