Taylor Swift talks about Daphne du Maurier and her novel Rebecca

Taylor Swift on the Late Show 10th Dec 2025

Taylor Swift on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Wednesday 10th December 2025

We know from past interviews that Taylor Swift is a big fan of Daphne du Maurier, particularly her most iconic novel, Rebecca.  She had gone on record as saying that Rebecca influenced her when she wrote the song Tolerate It.

This week, she has been talking about Daphne du Maurier again.  On Wednesday, 10th December, she appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and confirmed that she loves to read in her downtime, saying that she also listens to audiobooks constantly.

Daphne du Maurier and her most famous novel, Rebecca, were the only author and book that she mentioned in her conversation.  She said that Daphne du Maurier’s gothic novel Rebecca was an example of the type of book she enjoys and went on to say:

If you’ve got an old, rambling, shambles old British mansion covered in moss or ivy and there’s a mysterious relationship, and he may not be what he seems, and there’s a murder that has happened in the past, but you hear whispers of it, there’s the idea of a ghost or an actual ghost… [ ] If you’ve got any of that, I’m going to need to read that.  And when I say read that, I mean I’m going to need someone to read that to me.

So, as you can see, Taylor is a fan of audiobooks and books with a similar vibe to Rebecca.

She also said she appreciates stories centred around family drama and troubled romance.

It is great to see how much of an avid bookworm Taylor is.
