Ian McCarthy December 2025 Festival talk

Ian McCarthy

Join Emmy and BAFTA award-winning wildlife cameraman, Ian McCarthy, on Friday 5th December, 5-6pm, when he presents his compelling festival fundraising talk, Afghanistan & The Twin Towers: A Journey Through Two Life-Changing Expeditions.

In the summer of 2001, Ian was smuggled into Afghanistan to film a daring expedition to the remote Lapis Lazuli mines. Amid war zones, minefields and armed encounters, he uncovered unexpected kindness and filmed the final interview with warlord Ahmad Shah Massoud, just days before his assassination. Two weeks later, Ian landed in the U.S. as the Twin Towers fell.

This is a gripping, personal story of adventure, danger, and humanity at the edge of history, told through powerful images and readings from Ian's upcoming memoir, A Thousand Wild Dawns.

Don't miss this rare insight into two journeys that changed a life and the world.

Date – Friday 5th December 2025
Doors open at 4.30pm – Talk, 5pm – 6pm
Venue – Fowey Town Hall
