The du Maurier Fowey Literary Festival Secret Gardens – Friday 16th and Saturday 17th May 2025

Secret Gardens 2025

We are delighted to say that Secret Gardens is returning to the du Maurier Fowey Literary Festival once more.  This year, the gardens will be open on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th May, and you will be able to visit your favourite gardens in Fowey, Polruan and Bodinnick.  Entry to the gardens is free, but donations to the Festival are very welcome.

Copies of the Secret Gardens map will be available from the Festival box office, located in the Royal Fowey Yacht Club, as well as local shops and galleries in Fowey, Polruan and Bodinnick during Festival week.

Follow the garden trail to discover spectacular views, walled gardens and secluded havens, enjoying a diverse variety of planting and vibrant colour.  Refreshments will be available at some of the gardens.

Please note, due to the steep nature of the area, some gardens may have difficult access.  Visitors may also encounter a range of hazards, e.g. steps, slippery and/or uneven ground, and other trip hazards.  Neither the Festival nor the garden owner can accept any liability in the unlikely event of an accident.  Please make a risk assessment of your and your group's capability to safely manage these risks before deciding to enter a garden.

Opera in the garden

This year for Secret Gardens, The du Maurier Fowey Literary Festival is delighted to welcome the return of Thomas Martyn, who will be performing four operatic interludes at Porphyry Hall Garden.

Thomas is an impressive tenor and graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.  He has performed at charity events around the country, including the London Palladium.  You may have seen him in action recently on Channel 4's The Last Leg.

Thomas will be performing two twenty-minute sets on both Friday and Saturday at 11am and 3pm.  No tickets are necessary, but access will be capacity-controlled on a first-arrivals basis.

Timings:

Friday 16th May:

Porphyry Hall Garden: 11am – 11.20am, and 3pm – 3.20pm

Saturday 17th May:

Porphyry Hall Garden: 11am – 11.20am, and 3pm – 3.20pm

Porphyry Hall Garden will be offering tea, coffee and cake throughout the day.  All donations & refreshment proceeds will go to the Festival.
