Don’t Look Now is Nicholas Roeg’s most perfectly achieved film, adapted from Daphne du Maurier’s story of a grieving couple out of their depth in a wintry Venice.
The film is a largely faithful adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s short story. It follows a couple, mourning the death of their daughter, to Venice, where the husband works on restoring a church. There, they encounter two sisters, one a clairvoyant who claims the child is trying to contact them…
A bold, brilliantly constructed blend of suspense and supernatural tropes, the film is also a piercing study of grief.
On Tuesday 2nd July, the BFI Southbank is screening Don’t Look Now as a tribute to the late Donald Sutherland. The film begins at 8.55pm. You can book tickets here starting today (Tuesday 25th June).
