WF Howes, publisher of the Daphne du Maurier audiobook collection, introduces new titles

Howes audiobooks

Back in November 2024, we told you that Daphne du Maurier's literary agent, Curtis Brown, had negotiated a deal with W.F. Howes, RBmedia's UK publishing brand, to release Daphne du Maurier's works in audiobook format, many of which had never been released as audiobooks before.  Initially, they released some of Daphne's best-known novels, including Jamaica Inn, Rebecca, Frenchman's Creek, and My Cousin Rachel.

W.F. Howes has now announced that starting in December 2025, they will be releasing a further 17 audiobooks with titles including The Scapegoat, The House on the Strand, Myself When Young, The Rebecca Notebook and Other Memories, and some short story collections, including The Birds, Don't Look Now and The Rendezvous.

Johnny Flynn

Johnny Flynn who narrates The Scapegoat

These audiobooks are complete and unabridged, narrated by some fine and well-known actors.  For example The Scapegoat is voiced by Johnny Flynn (Ripley, Lovesick, Stardust), The House on the Strand is narrated by Ben Allen (The Sandman, Boys on Film 19: No Ordinary Boy, Another End), and both Myself When Young and The Rebecca Notebook and Other Memories are read by Hattie Morahan (The Golden Compass, The Bank Job, Mr Holmes).  The short stories will be voiced by a range of actors, including Luke Thompson (Bridgerton, Transatlantic, In the Club) and Finlay Robertson (Unforgotten, NY-LON, Life Begins).

Casting for the actors narration of the audiobooks was carried out by W.F. Howes, working in collaboration with Daphne du Maurier's Literary Estate and her Literary Agent, Curtis Brown.

A statement from the Estate said:

Giving the complete literary works of Daphne du Maurier a new lease of life in audio was an extremely ambitious undertaking.  We are thrilled with the actors Howes has brought on board and for their professional and creative collaboration with the Estate.  We hope these stunning works will reach an even wider audience and hope listeners enjoy them.

Laura Smith, acquisitions manager at WF Howes, added:

We are so delighted to finally be bringing the captivating works and literary genius of one of the world's most cherished writers to the audio format.

From designing striking new jacket images to assembling a talented cast of narrators, the whole project has been a real labour of love for our team from start to finish, but one of the most satisfying projects we have ever had the pleasure of working on. It has been a major career highlight to honour Daphne's undeniable legacy in this way and I can't wait to see how listeners respond to these latest audio editions.
