Blond Dust, a new novel by Tatiana de Rosnay
Tatiana de Rosnay and her new novel, Blond Dust
Tatiana de Rosnay is one of the top ten fiction writers in Europe. She has written more than ten novels, most famously the hugely successful Sarah's Key, which has sold over 11 million copies in 44 countries and was made into a film starring Kristin Scott Thomas.
Tatiana is especially important to us here at the Daphne du Maurier website because she has also written the only French-language biography of Daphne du Maurier, Manderley for ever (2015), which was later translated into English and published as Manderley Forever: The Life of Daphne du Maurier (2017).
She wanted to become a writer because of reading Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier when she was young. So we have Daphne to thank for now being able to enjoy Tatiana's fantastic writing.
Just published is the English language edition of Tatiana's latest novel, Blond Dust (2025), and here's a tiny taster of what it is about:
During a scorching summer in the American West in 1960, against the backdrop of The Misfits, an imagined friendship is formed between Marilyn Monroe and a young chambermaid called Pauline…
In a recent interview, Tatiana said that she had been considering writing a book about Marilyn Monroe and her final film, The Misfits, for a long time. However, there is so much written about her and Tatiana wanted to write something different. She developed the idea that the heroine of the book would not be Marilyn but a young woman, Pauline, who happens to meet her and how that meeting changes Pauline's life.
All of Tatiana's writing is published in French, and some of her books are also published in the English language. We are delighted to say that Blond Dust, as the title suggests, is available in English, and it should be pretty easy to get hold of a copy. The English language version is published in the US by Grand Central Publishing, part of the Hatchett Book Group, so it is readily available in the US. I purchased my copy from Blackwell's Online Bookshop in the UK, and the transaction was similarly straightforward.
