New public artwork to be unveiled in Fowey based on du Maurier's The Birds

This image from the Cornish Guardian shows the new public artwork which will be unveiled in Fowey on March 19th by Daphne du Maurier's son, Kits Browning. The artwork is inspired by du Maurier's short story 'The Birds' (published in her 1952 collection 'The Apple Tree and other stories' and made into a film in 1963 by Alfred Hitchcock). The metal sculpture has been created by Thomas and Gary Thrussell.

The unveiling of the sculpture will launch the 2018 Fowey Festival of Arts and Literature, which is being held from May 11-19th. The Festival website can be found here and the programme will contain a number of fascinating events based on Daphne du Maurier's life and works, from lectures to reading groups.

Keep an eye on our website for photographs of the unveiling and the artwork in situ next month!
