'Phantom Thread': New Daniel Day-Lewis film influenced by du Maurier's 'Rebecca'
We are looking forward to seeing the new Daniel Day-Lewis film, 'Phantom Thread' (in cinemas now). Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, Day-Lewis plays a fashion designer, living with his sister (played by Lesley Manville), who falls in love with a waitress (played by Vicky Krieps). Reviews of the film suggest that it is influenced by du Maurier's 'Rebecca' and by Hitchcock's 1940 adaptation. The Guardian review suggests that Manville's character is a 'combination of Mrs Danvers and Rebecca herself' and that Day-Lewis and Krieps channel Maxim and Mrs de Winter. We look forward to seeing the film!
