The former Duchess of Cornwall launched her reading group in 2021 during the pandemic.  It was born from her lifelong love of books.  She says books have enriched her life since childhood, and she has been delighted to watch the book club grow into a global online community.

The Queen's Reading Room is now a charity which produces accessible, free educational content around literature 365 days a year, through the website https://thequeensreadingroom.co.uk, Instagram https://www.instagram.com/thequeensreadingroom, and literary festivals, events, research and campaigns.

Her Majesty the Queen picks four favourite books for each of the four seasons of the year, and these book selections are supported by information about the books and their authors.  There is lots of exciting information, podcasts, and much more on the website, so take a look and join in with all the Queens Reading Room has to offer.

The current season, January to March 2024, is season number thirteen, and the books that the Queen has chosen this time are:

The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver

I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith

The Lords' Day by Michael Dobbs

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

Here at the Daphne du Maurier website, we are absolutely delighted that the Queen has chosen a Daphne du Maurier novel this time.

In 2018, when the then Duke and Duchess of Cornwall made one of their frequent visits to Cornwall, they spent an official morning in Fowey.  While in the town, they talked with local businessmen and women, charitable and community groups and children from the school and community college.  My husband, David, and I were honoured to receive them both at Bookends, the second-hand and antiquarian bookshop that we owned for many years.  We presented them with a lovely 80th-anniversary hardback edition of Rebecca, a book that was clearly close to the then Duchess's heart.

January 2024.
